The R.C. Harris Water Treatment Plant is Toronto infrastructure at its most theatrical: a 1930s Art Deco complex set above Lake Ontario at the eastern end of the Beaches. Its limestone massing, bronze details, and formal approach have made it a favourite location for films and television.
You cannot treat it like a normal museum, but the exterior is worth a look if you are walking the waterfront east of Woodbine Beach. It is one of the best reminders that civic utility buildings once aspired to beauty.
