Seven Lives Tacos y Mariscos

Baja-style fish tacos from a tiny Kensington counter, expect a line

Address 69 Kensington Avenue, Kensington Market

A tiny, perpetually busy counter that did as much as anything to put Baja-style seafood tacos on Toronto's map. The signature Gobernador — smoked marlin with melted cheese and shrimp — is the order to beat, but the battered fish and grilled-octopus tacos are nearly as good, all piled high and dressed with crema and salsa.

There is almost nowhere to sit, so most people eat standing on Kensington Avenue or take it to go. The line moves, the portions are huge for the price, and it remains one of the best-value lunches in the market.
