Wawa is small and the joys here are mostly outdoors. The big set-piece is the Wawa Goose, the giant steel bird at the highway junction that has been waving travellers off the Trans-Canada since 1963. Beyond that the appeal is landscape: Wawa Lake for swimming and paddling in summer, Magpie High Falls just out of town for a quick waterfall stop, and Lake Superior Provincial Park just south of town for hiking, pictographs, and rugged coastline.
This is also serious fishing and hunting country. Local outfitters can arrange trips for pike, walleye, and lake trout in summer, and moose and grouse hunts in the autumn.
