Baie-Trinité

Côte-Nord village of lighthouse history, salmon water, and St. Lawrence shore.

Baie-Trinité is a small Côte-Nord village on Route 138, the kind of place that only makes sense if you are already following the north shore of the St. Lawrence. It is too quiet to be a detour from Québec City or Montréal, but on the Côte-Nord it has a real identity: lighthouse history, salmon water, and a big, exposed shoreline.

The essential stop is Pointe-des-Monts Lighthouse, one of the old sentinels of the river-gulf transition. Around the village, the Trinité River and Charlotte Hiking Trail give the place an outdoorsy reason to linger instead of treating it as a fuel stop.

Keep expectations modest. Baie-Trinité is not polished, and that is part of the appeal. The reward is a slow Côte-Nord day of wind, water, weathered buildings, and a lighthouse road that feels like it has reached the edge of something.
