Saint-Joachim

Côte-de-Beaupré village below Cap Tourmente, known for geese, canyon trails, and New France history.

Saint-Joachim is a small village on the Côte-de-Beaupré east of Québec City, where the St. Lawrence flats meet the Laurentian escarpment. It is not a town of urban sights, but its setting is strong: marshes, cliffs, old farms, and the great shoulder of Cap Tourmente rising above the river.

The two big reasons to come are outside the village centre. Cap Tourmente National Wildlife Area is famous for snow geese during migration and has trails through marsh, forest, and hillside. Canyon Sainte-Anne adds a more dramatic outing, with a high waterfall, suspension bridges, and short walks into the gorge.

Saint-Joachim also has one of the older agricultural stories on the Côte-de-Beaupré. The land here helped feed early New France, and the Route de la Nouvelle-France still ties the village to the farmsteads, churches, and river views east of Québec City.
