Bonaventure

Acadian town on Chaleur Bay, where Gaspé culture meets a clear canoeing river.

Bonaventure is a small Acadian town on Chaleur Bay, on the south side of Quebec's Gaspé Peninsula. It is not a big-ticket destination like Percé, but it has a clear identity: Acadian history, a broad bay, and the clear Bonaventure River running down from the interior.

The town's best day combines culture and water. The Musée acadien du Québec explains why this part of Quebec feels tied to the wider Acadian world, while the Bioparc de la Gaspésie makes an easy family stop near the river mouth. In warm weather, Cime Aventures puts you on the Bonaventure River by canoe, kayak, tube, or paddleboard.

This is a place to slow down for a day while moving around the Gaspé coast. It is modest, but the Acadian story and the river give it more substance than a simple Route 132 stop.
