Whitehorse has a compact downtown along the Yukon River, and the major museums are concentrated near the waterfront or along the Alaska Highway. The S.S. Klondike and the Yukon Beringia Interpretive Centre are the anchor attractions; the MacBride Museum covers the Gold Rush era with good collections. In summer the riverfront and Miles Canyon offer outdoor activities within easy reach of the city.
