The Pacuare Protected Zone is a stretch of rainforest along the Pacuare River on Costa Rica's Caribbean slope, one of the country's most biologically rich and scenically dramatic river corridors. The river drops through a series of gorges and Class III–IV rapids, making it one of the top white-water rafting destinations in Central America.
The Pacuare Jungle Lodge sits on the riverbank and offers an overnight rafting-and-stay experience: guests raft in by river, sleep in palm-thatched bungalows above the water, and raft out the next morning. The hilltop honeymoon suite has panoramic views over the surrounding jungle canopy. High quality meals are included.
The zone forms a corridor between the Caribbean lowlands and the higher altitude cloud forests of the Talamanca range, supporting an unusual diversity of wildlife. Jaguars, tapirs, and river otters have all been recorded here, and the forest is particularly rich in birds.
