Bay Island Cruises runs the day boat from Puntarenas across the Gulf of Nicoya to Isla Tortuga — an hour and a half each way, with lunch on the beach, snorkelling and a few hours of doing nothing in particular.
It is the classic San José day trip to the sea, and the crossing itself, past the islands in the gulf, is half of it.
