Barrio Escalante has a cluster of specialty coffee shops sourcing directly from Costa Rican farms, and Café Rojo is among the best of them. The baristas know their varieties — Tarrazú, Naranjo, Tres Ríos — and will discuss the differences if you're interested. Espresso and filter are both done carefully.
It is a small space with a few tables and tends to fill up mid-morning. Good for breakfast before heading to the museums, or a focused afternoon coffee break while in the neighbourhood.
