Dragonfly Bar and Grill

Long-running fusion restaurant a few blocks back from the beach

Dragonfly has been a Tamarindo institution for years — a thatched-roof open-air dining room tucked away on a side street, far enough from the main drag to feel like a discovery. The cooking is fusion-leaning Latin-Asian: seared tuna with wasabi, coconut-encrusted snapper, miso-glazed pork, a famously good chocolate cake.

Prices are international-resort high by Costa Rican standards but reasonable for the quality. The cocktail list runs to a couple of pages and includes a mean basil-lime mojito. Dinner only; reservations advisable in high season.
