When to Go

The dry season runs from December through April and is when most travellers come — sunny, hot, almost no rain, reliable offshore winds for surfing. December and January are the peak weeks; book accommodation well ahead.

The green season from May to November flips the script. Afternoon thunderstorms refresh the air, the surrounding hills go a deep tropical green, prices drop substantially, and the beaches empty out. The surf is generally bigger and choppier; the turtles begin nesting from October. September and October are the wettest months and a few smaller businesses close, but the weather is rarely all-day rain — early mornings and late afternoons usually stay clear.
