Tamarindo has a small airstrip with daily flights from San José. SANSA and Travelair both make the trip in under an hour. A paved highway connects San José by road, and several bus companies run the route; count on four to five hours by car.
The more convenient option for international arrivals is the Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport in Liberia, which receives direct flights from Miami, New York, and several Canadian cities. Liberia is about 45 minutes from Tamarindo by road, and shared shuttles and taxis connect the two.
