Cycling the Valley

Rent a bicycle and explore the back roads of the valley at your own pace

Cycling is one of the best ways to explore the Viñales valley. Bicycles can be rented from several places in the village (ask at your casa particular) for a modest daily rate. The roads through the valley are quiet — little motor traffic, smooth enough for any bicycle — and the flat terrain between the mogotes makes for easy riding.

A typical day circuit takes you past tobacco farms, through small communities of farmers, and to viewpoints that the group tour buses can't access. Pack water, sunscreen, and more time than you think you need — the light changes constantly over the mogotes and there is always a reason to stop. The back road between Viñales and Mural de la Prehistoria is particularly good in the morning.
