About 30 kilometres west of Samaná town, near the village of El Limón, a tall ribbon of water drops some 50 metres from a fern-covered cliff into a deep pool. The walk in goes through small-holder banana groves and patches of secondary rainforest, with several river crossings on horseback or wading.
The waterfall is a working tourist attraction, but the volume of water and the setting still make it a satisfying destination. The pool at the base is deep and cold — bring swim things. Most riders arrange the tour through one of the licensed paradas in El Limón village, which run on a rotation system to spread the work among local families.
