Kukara Macara is the unlikely top sit-down restaurant on the Monumento end of the Calle del Sol — a Texan-themed steakhouse with saddle-and-spurs decor, decent ribs, and Dominican-sized portions of mofongo, longaniza, and grilled meats. It looks like a tourist trap but is mostly packed with locals.
The terrace looks straight up the Calle del Sol toward the Monumento, which is lit at night, and is one of the more pleasant places to eat outdoors in the centre. Service is leisurely. Open from lunch until late; live music some weekend nights.
