Pez Dorado has been on the Calle del Sol since 1965 and is something of a Santiago institution — a classic Chinese-Dominican kitchen serving Cantonese standards alongside criollo dishes. The dining room is large, the booths and decor unapologetically 1970s, and the regulars include local politicians and businesspeople.
The chow mein and the spareribs are the safest orders, but the menu also has the country's familiar la bandera, mofongo, and grilled meats. Open lunch and dinner, closed Mondays. It is one of the easiest places in the centre for a sit-down meal that isn't a chain.
