Muelle Turístico

The Muelle Turístico is the heart of La Libertad's waterfront. Fishing boats unload beside the pier, vendors sell the catch in the adjoining market, and restaurants along the malecón turn it into lunch almost before the ice has melted. Come in the morning if you want to see the work; come late afternoon if you want the gentler light and the crowd.

The pier itself is a good short walk, with views back to the town and along the Pacific coast. It is not a manicured marina, and that is the point. Watch your belongings in the crowd, then pick a seafood stall and order whatever looks freshest.

A story
La Libertad's pier is still a working place, not just a promenade. Boats come in with dorado, snapper, shrimp, and whatever the morning has produced, and the sale begins almost immediately. It is one of the few Salvadoran tourist sights where the main event is ordinary work.
