Nanortalik is accessible year-round by helicopter, but the outdoor activities that justify the journey are only practical from June through September. July and August offer the most reliable weather and the longest daylight hours. May and June bring the hooded seal migration, which animates the town and gives visitors a window into the hunting traditions that have sustained the community for centuries.
Winter visits are possible but require acceptance of cold, darkness, and very limited activities. The helicopter service runs on a reduced schedule in winter and is highly weather-dependent. Book well ahead regardless of season — helicopter seats are limited and fill up quickly in summer.
