Souffleur Beach

Souffleur is the main beach on the southwestern end of La Désirade, and one of the few genuinely flat, sandy beaches on an island that is otherwise rocky and cliffy. The water is calm and clear, sheltered from the Atlantic by the reef offshore, and the sand is white and fine. On a typical weekday you may share it with a handful of people at most.

The reef is close enough to the surface for snorkelling from the beach without a boat. The marine life is good by Caribbean standards — parrotfish, angelfish, trumpetfish, the occasional turtle. The water is warm year-round and visibility is generally excellent except immediately after heavy rain. There are no facilities to speak of — bring water, sunscreen, and whatever you need for the day.
