Lake Atitlán does not have sandy beaches in the conventional sense — the lake edge is mostly rocky or built up. Swimming is possible from docks and rocky platforms in several villages, particularly San Pedro La Laguna and San Marcos La Laguna. The water is clean and cold. San Marcos has a small pebble beach with good views of Volcán San Pedro. Kayaking is widely available and gives access to quieter stretches of shore that are difficult to reach on foot.
