The main way to move between villages is by lancha — small open motorboats that run from the Panajachel dock to all major villages throughout the day. Shared lanchas are cheap; private boats cost more but run on demand. Afternoon winds on the lake can be sudden and strong; if conditions look rough, wait rather than crossing. Tuk-tuks serve routes within and between some of the lakeside villages on the north shore. Panajachel is connected to Antigua and Guatemala City by shuttle and local bus.
