Santa Catarina Palopó is a Kaqchikel Maya village a short ride east of Panajachel, known for steep streets, lake views, and brightly painted houses. It feels close to Pana geographically but quite different in mood: smaller, more vertical, and more rooted in local life.
Go for a slow walk, buy directly from textile sellers if something catches your eye, and be respectful with photography. The village is an easy half-day by tuk-tuk or pickup, especially if you want a quick contrast to Panajachel's commercial strip.
