The Mercado de Guamalito is the main artisan market in San Pedro Sula, a covered indoor market where vendors sell crafts, clothing, leather goods, and souvenirs from across Honduras and Central America. You will find Lenca pottery from western Honduras, hand-woven textiles, leather bags, wood carvings, and various small objects made from tropical hardwoods and shells.
Bargaining is expected and prices are much more negotiable than in the air-conditioned malls. The market is busiest on weekday mornings when the selection is freshest. It is the best single stop for taking something distinctive home from Honduras, and browsing the stalls gives a better sense of the country's material culture than any shopping mall.
