Walking works for the historic centre — the cathedral, Parque Central, and the main museums are within reasonable distance of each other — but the city is hilly and spread out, and many roads are not pedestrian-friendly.
Taxis: Use radio-dispatched taxis rather than flagging down street cabs. Rideshare apps (Uber operates in the city) are a reliable alternative. Negotiate or confirm the fare before getting in with street taxis.
Buses and microbuses: Local buses are cheap and go everywhere but are crowded and not recommended for visitors unfamiliar with the routes.
For Suyapa or La Tigra, a private taxi or tour van is the most practical option.
