Tegucigalpa's historic centre, while worn and uneven, holds a genuine colonial core around Parque Central. The main draws are a cluster of churches, a few good museums, and the Basílica de Suyapa on the eastern edge of the city — one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Central America. La Tigra cloud forest, 22 km northeast, is a strong day-trip option for birdwatchers.
