Strawberry Hill is a boutique hotel and restaurant in the Blue Mountains above Kingston, at 950 metres elevation — an hour's drive from New Kingston through progressively more dramatic mountain scenery. The property, originally created by Island Records founder Chris Blackwell, occupies a ridge with views over Kingston, the harbour, and on clear days, the southern coast of Jamaica.
The restaurant is open to non-guests for lunch and brunch, and it is one of the most rewarding meals available within day-trip distance of Kingston — Jamaican cooking done with good ingredients in a spectacular setting. The Sunday brunch is particularly popular. The drive up and back can be combined with stops at Newcastle military post (1,200 metres), with its extraordinary views, and at any of the coffee estates accessible from the Gordon Town road. Worth booking ahead for weekend visits.
