Kingston offers a concentrated hit of Jamaican culture, history, and music that no other city on the island can match. The Bob Marley Museum, the National Gallery, and the Institute of Jamaica form the cultural core; the Blue Mountains loom to the north; and the ferry to Port Royal makes for one of the best half-day excursions in the Caribbean. Downtown rewards careful exploration — the Ward Theatre, the waterfront, and the National Heroes Park carry layers of the city's history.
