Kingston has Jamaica's best and most varied food scene. Jerk, curried goat, ackee and saltfish, escovitch fish, oxtail, and patties are all done well here, but the city also has serious restaurants, Chinese-Jamaican cooking that goes back to the 19th century, and a small but growing cohort of chefs working with local ingredients in more contemporary ways. The best cooking often comes from small, unfussy places rather than hotel restaurants.
