Kingston Crafts Market

The Kingston Crafts Market on Ocean Boulevard, near the waterfront in Downtown Kingston, is the city's main concentration of craft vendors — wood carving, woven bags, wooden sculpture, t-shirts, and the usual range of Jamaican souvenir production. The quality varies from genuinely skilled work in lignum vitae (Jamaica's national wood, extraordinarily dense and beautifully grained) to factory-produced tourist items.

The market is less aggressive than the craft markets in Montego Bay and Ocho Rios, which benefits the shopping experience. The better stalls sell pieces that are worth taking home: hand-carved items in lignum vitae, Rastafari-influenced art, and Jamaican-made jewellery. Bargaining is expected and prices move. The waterfront location makes it a natural stop on a Downtown itinerary, particularly around the ferry terminal for Port Royal.
