Rockland Bird Sanctuary is a small, quietly magical place in the hills outside Montego Bay. The main draw is close contact with Jamaica's birds, especially the doctor bird, the island's long-tailed national hummingbird, which may come to feed from a bottle while you sit on the terrace.
It is not a slick attraction, and that is part of the charm. Come for a slow hour with binoculars rather than a big-ticket excursion: you are likely to see finches, doves, bananaquits, and several hummingbirds, with views back toward the coast on a clear day.
