Negril Lighthouse

The Negril Lighthouse sits at South Negril Point, the absolute westernmost tip of Jamaica. Built in 1894, it is still an active aid to navigation. The grounds are open to visitors during the day; a keeper is usually present and will often let you climb to the gallery for a view over the cliffs and the sea. It is a short walk south along the West End road past Rick's Café.

A story
Built in 1894 by French contractors Barber & Bernard, the lighthouse stands at the westernmost tip of Jamaica. At 20 metres tall with a lens visible 17 nautical miles out to sea, it guided ships around one of the Caribbean's most treacherous headlands. The keeper's quarters still stand beside it.
