El Tepalo is the classic short hike from Ajijic into the hills above Lake Chapala. In the dry season it can feel like a rocky ravine walk; after rain, the creek and small waterfalls turn it into one of the easiest nature escapes from town.
Start early, bring water, and wear shoes with grip, because the path can be dusty, steep, or slippery depending on the season. The best reason to go is not a huge waterfall, but the quick transition from lakeside village to cactus, rock, pools, and wide views.
