Playa Delfines

The Cancun postcard view — turquoise water, white sand, and the giant CANCUN sign

The southernmost public beach in the Hotel Zone and the most scenic — a long unbroken sweep of fine white sand backed by low cliffs rather than hotels. The official viewpoint at the top of the cliff (with the giant multicoloured CANCUN sign) is one of the most photographed spots in Mexico. The water is open Caribbean and the surf is bigger than on the in-zone beaches, so swimmers should stay attentive to currents and lifeguard flags.

Unlike most Cancun beaches, Playa Delfines has no big resorts immediately behind it, which means more space and a more local feel. There is a free car park and basic facilities (toilets, a few palapas, vendors) but no big restaurants — bring water and snacks. The R1 bus from anywhere in the Hotel Zone stops at the cliff-top entrance.
