The bar scene splits sharply between the Hotel Zone (loud, expensive, themed) and downtown (cheaper, mellower, more Mexican). Senor Frog's, Carlos'n Charlie's, and the Hard Rock Cafe represent the chain Hotel Zone style; the lobby bars at the bigger resorts (Live Aqua, Nizuc, Hyatt Ziva) are surprisingly good if more refined sipping is what you want. Downtown, the bars around Parque Las Palapas serve cold beer and michelada to a local crowd, with mariachi groups passing through most nights. Cafe Nader and Aluxes Café are the better Centro cafe options for breakfast or an afternoon coffee.
