Chihuahua punches well above its weight for a Mexican provincial capital. The colonial centre around the Plaza de Armas has a handsome cathedral and several museums' worth of history concentrated in a few blocks. The most visited is the Francisco Villa Museum — Pancho Villa's own mansion — but the Quinta Gameros, an extraordinary Art Nouveau villa that looks wildly out of place, is just as rewarding. For those heading towards the Copper Canyon, Chihuahua is also the starting point of the Chepe (Ferrocarril Chihuahua–Pacífico), one of the world's great train journeys.
