Cuernavaca's central location makes it a good base for the Morelos region. Tepoztlán — with its volcanic cliffs, Aztec pyramid, and Dominican convent — is 25km east and easily reached by bus or combi in under an hour. Xochicalco — the UNESCO-listed hilltop fortress — is 38km southwest and can be combined with a stop at the archaeological museum in a half-day. Taxco, the silver-working colonial town in the Guerrero hills, is 80km south and worth a full day.
The Jardines de México, in Jojutla de Juárez further south, claims to be the largest botanical garden in the world and is particularly good in spring when the blooms are at their peak.
