Ensenada is one of the best places to eat in Baja California. The fish taco originated here — or at least that is the local claim, and nobody disputes it in any restaurant along the Malecon. Beyond the tacos, the city has a strong tradition of seafood cooking: ceviche, aguachile (raw shrimp in chili-lime water), grilled clams, and tostadas piled with fresh fish.
The wine country of Valle de Guadalupe, 30 kilometres northeast, has spawned a generation of Baja Med restaurants that are among the most interesting in Mexico. In town, Avenida Primera (First Street) has a concentration of restaurants and bars worth walking from end to end.
