Cathedral of the Assumption

The Cathedral of the Assumption (Catedral de la Asunción) is the most visible landmark in central Hermosillo. Its two neoclassical towers, completed in the late 19th century, anchor the downtown skyline and frame the Plaza Zaragoza. The exterior is elegant and restrained; the interior features painted vaults, ornate altarpieces, and a calm atmosphere that offers welcome shade on hot afternoons.

The cathedral faces the main plaza, which is the social heart of the historic centre. On weekend evenings the plaza fills with families, vendors, and musicians. The surrounding streets hold the main commercial district and several other historic buildings worth exploring on foot.
