The Ferrocarril Chihuahua al Pacífico station in Los Mochis is the western terminus of the Chepe, one of the world's great railway journeys. Trains depart in the early morning (around 06:00) for the 655-kilometre climb through 86 tunnels and across 37 bridges to Chihuahua. The station itself is functional rather than grand, but the early morning scene — travellers with their gear, vendors selling food, the train pulling in from the yard — has its own quiet drama.
Tickets for the premium Expreso service can be booked online or at the station; book in advance for the October–March high season. The Expreso offers reserved seating with guaranteed window views; the cheaper Regional class is a separate service with a different schedule. Most travellers heading into the Sierra Madre buy a one-way ticket to Creel or Divisadero and make their own arrangements from there.
