Los Mochis is best known as the western terminus of the Chepe railway, one of the world's great train journeys through the Copper Canyon. Beyond the railway, the city offers a lively central market, and the nearby port of Topolobampo opens up ferry connections to Baja California. The colonial town of El Fuerte, an hour northeast, is a favourite alternative base for canyon-bound travellers who want to start the train ride deeper into the mountains.
