The Mercado Independencia is the working heart of Los Mochis, a covered market in the city centre where locals shop for fruit, vegetables, meat, and dry goods. It is the cheapest and most straightforward place to stock up on supplies before boarding the Chepe, and the food stalls inside serve solid, no-frills breakfasts and lunches.
Look for the birria and menudo stalls near the back, and the juice vendors who blend fresh combinations to order. The market is busiest in the early morning and winds down by early afternoon. It sits within easy walking distance of the main bus terminals and the Chepe station.
