Topolobampo

Topolobampo is the deep-water port town 24 km southwest of Los Mochis, set on one of the largest natural harbours on Mexico's Pacific coast. It is most useful as the departure point for the Baja Ferries service to La Paz, but the waterfront itself is pleasant enough for a few hours — pelicans patrol the docks, fishing boats unload their catch each morning, and there are a handful of seafood restaurants where the shrimp comes straight off the boats.

The bay and surrounding mangroves shelter good birdwatching, and dolphin sightings are common in the channel. Shared taxis run between Los Mochis city centre and Topolobampo throughout the day; the ferry terminal is at the far end of the waterfront.
