Hacienda Yaxcopoil is one of the clearest surviving examples of the henequen estates that shaped modern Yucatan. South of Merida, it preserves grand rooms, working yards, and old machinery from the fibre boom that made hacienda owners rich and bound much of the countryside to plantation labour.
Visit it as history, not nostalgia. The peeling walls and industrial equipment are more interesting than any polished mansion tour, because they show both wealth and extraction. It pairs well with Uxmal or other Puuc-route stops if you are planning a full day outside Merida.
