Mérida's evening culture revolves around parks, outdoor tables, and the cantina tradition rather than clubs or cocktail bars. The best drinking is done outdoors, at one of the small squares with marimba or trova music playing, in a cantina where the drinks come with food, or at a table on Calle 60 watching the evening pedestrian traffic. The mezcal available in Mérida tends to be from Oaxaca rather than locally produced, but it is well-priced and widely available. Yucatecan beer is León, a dark lager that is unexpectedly good and cheaper than the ubiquitous Modelo.
