Xalapa takes coffee seriously. The surrounding hills produce some of Mexico's finest arabica, and the city's cafes are generally better than the national average. The university population keeps the cafe scene young and lively, and a cluster of good spots has grown around Calle Primo Verdad and the streets near the anthropology museum. Craft beer has also arrived — a handful of bars near the old town serve local and regional microbrews.
