Xalapa is the rainiest big city in Mexico. The cloud forest climate brings persistent drizzle (chipi-chipi) and grey overcast for much of the year, with the wettest months from June through October. Temperatures are mild year-round — 12–22 °C is typical — and rarely uncomfortable.
The driest and clearest months are December through April, which is the best window for views of Pico de Orizaba and for the surrounding coffee fincas. Holy Week (Semana Santa) brings crowds from Veracruz city; the rest of the year Xalapa stays comfortably uncrowded. Bring a fleece — even in summer the evenings are cool.
