Paseo de los Lagos

Paseo de los Lagos is a landscaped lakeside path south of the city centre, following a string of small artificial lakes through parkland and wetland. It is a favourite spot for early morning walkers and joggers, and the reed-fringed water attracts a variety of waterbirds — herons, egrets, and kingfishers are common. The mist that frequently hangs over Xalapa in the morning settles here, and the walk has a quiet, atmospheric quality that feels removed from the busy commercial streets above.

The path is about two kilometres long and connects to the Parque los Berros to the southeast, making it possible to combine both in a single morning walk. Street food stalls appear at weekends. It is a good reminder that Xalapa's setting — high, wet, and green — gives it a character quite different from other Mexican cities of similar size.
