Lac Bay is a broad, shallow lagoon on Bonaire's southeast coast. The trade wind crosses flat turquoise water at Sorobon, creating forgiving conditions for learning to windsurf and enough open space for experienced sailors to move quickly without ocean swell.
The northern side is a very different place: mangroves, seagrass beds, and channels that act as nursery habitat for fish. Access is controlled to protect this Ramsar wetland, so use an authorised guide for kayaking and stay out of closed zones.
Sorobon's shallow water is not a classic swimming beach at low tide, and the two sides of the bay are not connected by a convenient shore road. Decide whether you want windsurfing or mangroves before setting out, then approach from the appropriate direction.
