Peña de la Cruz rises on the west side of Jinotega, marked by a cross and reached by a climb that is part exercise, part city orientation. The reward is a broad view over the valley, the roofs of Jinotega, and the green highlands that make this part of Nicaragua feel very different from the hotter lowlands.
Go in decent shoes and avoid the hottest part of the day. The walk is straightforward but steep enough to feel earned, and the viewpoint makes most sense early or late, when the light is better and the city below is not washed flat by midday sun.
